Back in March the idea of reviving the Monmouthshire Rifle Association. At the time there was a good response with several comments and suggestions from respondents. Firstly, that we let clubs self-score to save expense and hassle.  One respondent wasn't keen on cash prizes.  And a third suggested that for insurance reasons the competition should be limited to WSRA members and restricted to WRSA registered clubs.

The first suggestion makes a lot of sense and we suggest that each club selects a scorer who will be responsible for scoring (using an appropriate gauge please, rather than relying only on the naked eye to ensure consistency) but that all cards should kept until the end of the season so that if required a round could be audited at random.

There is plenty of cash in the MRA bank account to cover both cash prizes and appropriate certificates and/or trophies/medals. One reason for the cash prize proposal is to try and use up some of these funds, and the other is to promote interest, so unless there is strong objection from more participants we will stick with using cash prizes for the moment.

The third suggestion has been discussed but the organisers cannot take any responsibility for safety procedures at participating clubs so the issue of safety controls, insurance and legal responsibility must lie solely with the clubs taking part. This means that there is no reason for restricting participation to WRSA clubs or individual members.

From the responses we had, it looks as if Abergavenny, Torfaen, Chepstow, Monmouth and Newport will be interested in principle, Glascoed won't take part as it focuses more on full-bore and most of its small-bore shooting members are members at other clubs too.

The button above will take you to the proposed rules for regulating the competition, and entry forms. Hopefully, these are clear but if there are any question please get back in touch with Chris Potter or Robin Hilborne.

If we get a reasonable number of entries we will run the competition as proposed and Robin and I will start preparing stickers to send out.

Please note the closing date for entries is the end of September. If we do not receive entries we will abandon the idea.
